Skills covered:

  • Deep dive planning – Calculating gas consumption, reserve requirements, and no-decompression limits
  • Narcosis recognition – Recognizing symptoms (euphoria, anxiety, overconfidence) and managing them
  • Buoyancy at depth – Adjusting for wetsuit compression (you lose buoyancy as you descend)
  • Emergency protocols – Lost buddy search at depth, sharing air from 40m, controlled emergency swimming ascent
  • Gas management – Using the “rule of thirds” for deep dives
  • Deep navigation – Compass accuracy changes with depth; learning to compensate
