  • Budget-conscious divers (Scuba Diver costs less than full Open Water)
  • Nervous beginners who want a less intense path
  • Anyone who plans to always dive with a professional guide (many resorts require this anyway)

Minimum Age: 10 years old (Junior Scuba Diver for ages 10-14)

Maximum Depth: 12 meters (40 feet)

Upgrade Path: Complete remaining modules + 2 more dives to earn Open Water Diver

Certification Outcome: PADI Scuba Diver certification

The PADI Scuba Diver course includes:

Phase 1: Knowledge Development (Theory)

First 3 of 5 Open Water knowledge development sections where you learn:

  • Basic scuba diving principles
  • Dive planning and safety
  • Equipment use and maintenance
  • Underwater communication
  • Environmental awareness

Phase 2: Confined Water Dives (Pool Training)

  • First 3 of 5 Open Water skill sessions covering equipment setup, breathing underwater; regulator clearing; lost regulator recovery; partial mask clearing; BCD operation; alternate air source use; weight check; buoyancy control (basic); snorkel to regulator exchange; fully flooded mask clearing; mask removal and replacement; cramp release; tired diver tow; emergency swimming ascent; buoyancy refinement.

Phase 3: Open Water Dives (Real Diving)

  • First 2 of 4 Open Water dives where you will apply the skills learned in the pool in a real open water environment; practice buoyancy control, regulator recovery, and mask clearing at depth; and explore the underwater world — fish, corals, and marine life.

This means you complete approximately half of the Open Water Diver course and can easily upgrade later.
